With love from Kellyville

Our friends at the Kellyville Anglican Church were so thrilled by their contribution to Operation Christmas Child that they wanted to inspire you to participate this year and reach even more children. Their pastor gives four great reasons to get involved:

  1. It’s a short-term project that brings the whole church together.
  2. It’s real. By sending tangible gifts, even young children can learn the value of giving.
  3. It gives us all an insight into our comparative wealth and how blessed we are.
  4. It reminds us that loving our neighbour means loving people overseas too.

Ladeane Lindsay, a mother in the church recalled her children’s excitement in filling a shoe box for another child their age. “It was a wonderful family experience to work on together. We became very creative at folding things up to fit in as much as possible.”
She also noticed that her family was not the only one to be inspired. “This ministry was embraced by so many people from all generations – children, youth, adults and the elderly were all very eager to take part! And having the opportunity to see our shoe boxes make their way through remote parts of Papua New Guinea was such a remarkable moment.”

The church coordinator recalls visiting the distribution warehouse. “There is something special about working together to achieve a common goal,” she said. “I felt so proud of our church’s contribution, and was humbled when I saw the many pallets already packed up and ready to be sent off. It broke my heart to think that there were so many children in need, and the warehouse I was in contained just a small fraction of the total of boxes filled worldwide.”
